HERALD OF POWER
HUSARZ 1572
We present the silhouette of a Hussar from the year 1572. Clad in chainmail and draped in bearskin, he represents the formative era of the hussars, before their transformation into the legendary heavy cavalry of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth under King Stephen Bathory.
VISIBLE ELEMENTS OF CLOTHING AND ARMAMENT:
HUSSAR KETTLE HAT (KAPALIN): Feather-adorned variation of the European kettle hat.
CHAINMAIL (KOLCZUGA): Primary protection for torso and arms.
HUSSAR SHIELD: Tall Hungarian or Albanian asymmetrical shield supporting lance combat.
THE WING: Early small wing attached directly to the shield.
SABER (SZABLA): Long Hungarian-style saber.
COMBAT ŻUPAN: Quilted garment worn beneath chainmail.
ANKLE BOOTS (TRZEWIKI): Yellow-dyed leather boots reaching above the ankle.
