HUSARZ 1651
We present the silhouette of a Hussar Comrade from the year 1651, commemorating the three-day Battle of Berestechko, the largest land battle of 17th-century Europe, where the Crown Army defeated combined Cossack-Tatar forces.
VISIBLE ELEMENTS OF COSTUME AND ARMAMENT:
HUSSAR SZYSZAK (HELMET): Helmet with laminated neck guard, cheekpieces, and straight nasal guard.
HUSSAR HALF-ARMOR: Laminated breastplate and backplate with segmented pauldrons.
BRACERS WITH MAIL MITTENS (KARWASZE): Steel bracers with chainmail mittens.
POLISH-HUNGARIAN SABER: Curved blade with thumb ring (paluch) and massive yelman.
ESTOC (KONCERZ): Long rigid thrusting sword carried at the saddle.
LEOPARD SKIN: Draped over the left shoulder as status and fear-inducing symbol.
ŻUPAN: Dark red noble under-garment.
HUSSAR BOOTS: Tall red leather cavalry boots.
